We all need support:

Mike (He/Him)

Navigating difficulties in our relationships, struck with angst, or burdened by the changes that grief brings can open up emotional complexity, often making our paths ahead feel uncertain. In order to shift ourselves forward, it’s beneficial to have someone else committed to the process who can help us explore our lives with care, support, and unbiased curiosity. Finding the right support, however, can be a challenging task.

I work with all types of adult men and male-identified folks struggling with anxieties, identity, self-esteem, boundaries, and relationships.

I’m specialized in Complex PTSD and have supported men for almost 20 years through various organizations and in my counselling practice.

I enjoy connecting with diverse peoples of all shapes and backgrounds and have adept experience with straight, LGBTQ2S+, and Indigenous peoples.

I offer free consultations for you to get a sense if I might be the right person to help you and for you to ask any questions you might have to assist with your decision.

My Approach:

  • I believe counselling is relationally-based. Research shows that safe therapeutic connections are necessary for healing and a Trauma-Informed approach is essential in creating that emotional security. We all have different factors contributing to our lives, different families and relationships, personal influences, and unique coping styles which can impact our ability to change in the ways we would like;

  • I meet with each person through a compassionate, eclectic, and strengths-based curiosity, working to find paths that work for you;

  • I am specialized in C-PTSD and focus on clients through a Sensorimotor Psychotherapy approach that incorporates Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Somatic strategies.

Acknowledgement:

As a white settler, I recognize that I have unequally benefitted from systems designed to oppress Indigenous Peoples. I am committed to doing the work necessary to repair harm, de-colonize, and find ways to extend that work beyond myself.

I am originally from Cree/Assiniboine/Salteaux Territories of Treaty 4 on the Plains of Saskatchewan, now residing in the beautiful lək̓ʷəŋən and W̱SÁNEĆ territories, colonially knows as Victoria, on Vancouver Island.
